At Stevens Traceability, we’re committed to keeping your checkweighing systems operating at peak performance. To that end, we’re providing you with an important update regarding the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) used in some of our checkweighers.
The manufacturer of the PLC has discontinued the FP-X series and replaced it with the newer FP-XH series. While the FP-XH series maintains a similar physical footprint and connection layout, there are significant differences in functionality, connectivity, and software.
Why This Matters:
This change directly impacts the long-term reliability and serviceability of your checkweighers. Here’s why:
- Minimising Potential Downtime: To prevent unexpected downtime due to potential future part failures, we strongly recommend a planned upgrade from the FP-X to the FP-XH series. This proactive approach ensures your production line remains operational.
- Ensuring Seamless Replacements: Upgrading to the FP-XH series now guarantees that any future PLC replacements can be performed quickly and easily “out of the box.” This eliminates potential delays and complications associated with sourcing obsolete parts or needing significant modifications.
- Proactive Planning for Long-Term Reliability: Although PLC failures are not common, the complexities of upgrading (which includes rewriting PLC programs) and potential component lead times make a planned upgrade a prudent step. This allows you to schedule the change at a time that minimises disruption to your operations.
Our Recommendation:
To ensure your Stevens checkweigher continues to operate smoothly and efficiently, we strongly recommend a phased and planned upgrade to the FP-XH series. We understand that this change may raise questions, and we want to assure you that we’re here to help.
We’re committed to supporting your business and ensuring your equipment remains reliable. Our team is ready to discuss your specific needs and develop a tailored upgrade plan that minimises disruption to your operations.
